The Ambassadors Big Band was formed in 1957 with Fred Bentz as the leader.  The original name was, The Ambassadors Of Good Will.  They performed at V.A. hospitals in Michigan.  After a few years it was decided to make the band a regular swing band and the name was changed.  Vocalists were added and with the second leader, Al Townsend, the band received many excellent original arrangements.  His writing has given the band it's unique sound and style.  In 1986 Mike Letovsky joined the band as a tenor sax player and a few years later he took over the lead alto sax chair.  In 1993 Mike took over leadership of the band, currently books and rehearses the band.
